M3T Communicating Mathematics

Course coordinators: Emma McCoy and Lynda White

Current Students:

M3T has a dedicated Blackboard page that registered students can access via Blackboard Learn

M3T is an optional

course normally for third year BSc or MSci students (including JMC students), although it is also available to fourth year students returning from a year in Europe and to other fourth year students if there are sufficient spaces. It offers the opportunity of gaining first hand experience of the education of young mathematicians in a school environment and of gaining a number of transferable skills that are in demand by employers in many occupations.  Admittance to the course is via a selection interview, if you are selected then there is a compulsory training day during the summer term.  All students accepted on to the course must obtain an enhanced DBS check (see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview for more details), the paperwork for this is completed during the training day.

You can obtain some more information about the course here: M3T information.

There are only a limited number of places available and admission to the course is by application and interview, which will involve a presentation. You will need to demonstrate commitment to the course and have good communication and presentation skills.  To be accepted onto the course you will need to convince us that you will make an excellent ambassador for both the Department and College.

M3T will run during the spring term of the students’ third or fourth year.  Students will make initial contact with their schools and mentor teachers during the autumn term. During the spring term each student will spend half a day a week in the school for the duration of the course. The students will meet with the Course Coordinators as a group three times in the spring term, to review progress and in addition there will be a weekly office hour.  It can be run in conjunction with a Pimlico placement.
